چکیده

The content of total phenolics in roots, leaflets and seeds of a number of Astingulus species from Iran was examined. Phenolics content of the aqueous and methanolic extracts of the species were determined spectrophotometrically. Phenolics content depend on factors such as the species, geographical location of the plants and the organs. Moreover, the content of phenolics depends on the extraction solvents. Phenolics content in roots and leaflets of the species using aqueous extracts varied from 0.13-0.80 and 0.63-5.16% dry weight, respectively while using methanolic extracts ranged from 0.25-0.95 and 0.52-3.75% dry weight, respectively. Generally, the content of phenolics in leaflets was higher than that of the roots and seeds. In this paper the content of the phenolics in various species of Asti-agulus is reported for the first time.

Mineral and Phytochemical Profiles and Antioxidant Activity of Herbal Material from Two Temperate Astragalus Species

Only a few species of the large Astragalus genus, widely used for medicinal purposes, have been thoroughly studied for phytochemical composition. The aim of our research was to investigate the rarely studied species A. glycyphyllos L. and A. cicer L. for the distribution of mineral elements and phytochemicals in whole plants at two growth stages and in morphological fractions. We also investiga...

Defensive and secondary metabolism in Astragalus chrysochlorus cell cultures, in response to yeast extract stressor.

In this study it was aimed to investigate inducibility of secondary metabolism in Astragalus chrysochlorus by yeast extract which is known to cause the synthesis of defensive phenolic metabolites. Cell suspension cultures of Astragalus chrysochlorus responded to elicitor treatment (10 gl(-1) yeast extract) by increasing phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL E.C. 4.3.1.5) activity the key enzyme of p...
